Yesterday, I was down at my local print shop, getting a copy made of my eBook, College Life Tips: for Living The College Life. [BTW a little tip: Whenever possible I have the print shop create large-scale copies-which saves on my home printer and cartridge use.] After you read the rest of my story, you can download your copy, just over to the right. But now, the rest of the story.
While waiting for my copies, I sat down and settled-in to read the New York Times. I had just scanned the front page, when a man interrupted me to ask if that was my College Life Tips book on the counter. I said yes and he asked me to tell him what it was all about. I jumped at the opportunity, rose to return to the counter, and started to explain my work. Then, I noticed a small poster in front of him and asked him if this was his. He said yes, “It is a poster for my latest book. I wrote it to help students prepare for the SATs. In fact, it is out today. I just came from dropping copies off to the local Borders bookstore.” It turns out the man was, Brian Leaf, M.A. who has authored five books, including his latest Defining Twilight.
Defining Twilight is actually a vocabulary workbook written to unlock and unleash students’ word power and increase their vocabulary. Ultimately, in preparation for standardized tests. How brilliant is this? Brian is using popular fiction to help students prep for the SAT, ACT, GED, and SSAT.
In fact, each chapter, of this workbook, gives words taken from Twilight then allows you to define the word on your own [Brian’s book includes page references to Twilight-so students can study side-by-side with their own copy of Stephanie Meyer’s book] Then, Brian’s book gives you the opportunity to turn back to his workbook to see those words’ actual definitions. He has included drills and quizzes to review and integrate what you’ve learned. Plus, you will learn synonyms, Latin word parts, and he has memorization tools throughout his workbook.
See for yourself. Just click and download a sample from his book.
Brian Leaf, M.A. is Director of the New Leaf Learning Center in Massachusetts, and has provided SAT, ACT, GED, SSAT, and GRE preparation to thousands of students from throughout the United States.
So, now even when you are reading for pleasure, you can be studying for the SAT.
